Born in Wisconsin, and raised in Middle Tennessee, John Mears began studying music at an early age. After joining the school band at age 11, John became interested in learning to play as many instruments as possible. An avid fan of film music of his youth, John would use these themes to teach himself various instruments that he would acquire second-hand. John eventually attended Middle Tennessee State University earning a degree in Instrumental Music Education while also studying private Music Composition/Arranging lessons. During his undergraduate degree, John’s interest in arranging and encouragement of his faculty allowed him to arrange for MTSU’s “Band of Blue”. It was at this time John realized his passion for music could involve both teaching and writing. John has scored several short student films for Vanderbilt University and Watkins College, and has composed/arranged half-time marching band shows for several noted high school bands. In 2012 he earned his Master’s Degree in Music Education from Boston University and continues to write music for both Film/TV placement as well as educational music resources.
